What is the Virginia M. Parker Scholarship?
Each school year during the spring semester, the sisters of Chi Kappa Rho come together to organize and host the Virginia M. Parker Fashion Show. The fashion show was put into place to raise money in order to honor our founding advisor, Virginia M. Parker. This scholarship is awarded annually to an academically and financially deserving female undergraduate who has demonstrated university or community involvement. This woman is not affiliated with the sorority itself, however. This will be the 53rd year we have provided this scholarship to the women of the University of New Haven.
Chi Kappa Rho is a sorority that was founded here on December 2, 1963! Chi Kappa Rho’s mission is to promote an understanding of friendship among the women of the University of New Haven though community service and social ideals. Our motto is "Share the friendship and the spirit." And that is exactly what we're doing with this scholarship! We want to help out a fellow women here at the University to present her with this scholarship.
A Personal Thank You from a Previous Scholarship Recipient
"I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for making the Virginia M. Parker Scholarship possible. I am truly honored to be a recipient of this award and I am sincerely grateful of your support... Because of your generous scholarship, my financial burden has been lessened. In this school year, I look forward to maintaining my GPA as well as graduating in the spring of 2018. After college, I would love to continue my education and attend graduate school. In the future, my dream is to pursue a career with the Drug Enforcement Administration. With the help of your generous donation, I no longer face financial insecurity for this school year."
Our Other Initiatives
Chi Kappa Rho's main philanthropy is Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Throughout the year we fundraise in order to provide MADD with some funds in order to run since they are a nonprofit organization. One of our events for MADD is March MADDness. Other community service events include food drives, soup kitchens, and the SASS Walk. The SASS walk is the Sexual Assault Survivors and Supporters Walk that we host here on campus (shown here).
